Preserve Forever — how to delete your photos, videos, face recognition data, or your entire account

You can delete specific types of data from Preserve Forever at any time — you do not need to delete your entire account to remove individual photos, face recognition data, or shared album contributions. Follow the steps below for the data type you want to remove.

How to request data deletion

Identify what you want to delete

Use the table below to find the specific data type and the in-app steps to delete it.

Delete it yourself in the app

Most data can be deleted directly in the Preserve Forever app or at preserveforever.photos without contacting us. This takes effect immediately.

Can't find the option? Email us

If you cannot locate the deletion option, or if you want to request deletion of a specific data type by email, contact privacy@preserveforever.photos. We will respond within 30 days.

Data types, deletion steps, and retention periods

Individual photos or videos

Self-service

How to delete: Open the Preserve Forever app → long-press any photo or video → Delete. You can also select multiple items and delete them in bulk from the Photos tab.

What is deleted: Removed from your library immediately.

Retention period: Deleted from hot storage within 30 days. Deleted from cold archive storage within 90 days.

Face recognition data (biometric)

Self-service

How to delete: Open the app → Account → Privacy → disable "Group photos by person". All face groups and biometric embeddings are permanently and immediately deleted from our systems and from AWS Rekognition.

What is deleted: All face groups and biometric data deleted immediately.

Retention period: No retention. Deleted permanently upon opt-out.

Share links

Self-service

How to delete: Open the app → Photos → Share Links → tap any link → Revoke. This immediately invalidates the link.

What is deleted: Link deactivated immediately; record removed from our database.

Retention period: None.

Shared album contributions

Self-service

How to delete: Open the app → Shared Albums → tap an album → long-press your own photo → Remove from Album. This removes your contribution without affecting your personal library.

What is deleted: Removed from the shared album immediately.

Retention period: None.

Profile information (name, preferences)

Requires account deletion

How to delete: Open the app → Account → edit your profile. To delete all profile data, delete your account (see below).

What is deleted: Profile data deleted when account is deleted.

Retention period: None after account deletion.

All data — full account deletion

Requires account deletion

How to delete: Open the app → Account → scroll to bottom → Delete Account → confirm. See our full account deletion guide at preserveforever.photos/delete-account.

What is deleted: Profile, share links, face data, and memberships deleted immediately. Subscription cancelled immediately.

Retention period: Photos deleted within 30–90 days. Anonymised transaction records retained up to 7 years for legal compliance. NCMEC reports retained as required by US law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A).

Data that cannot be deleted

NCMEC CyberTipline reports

Required by U.S. federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A). We are legally obligated to retain these records.

Anonymised transaction records

Retained for up to 7 years for financial and tax compliance. These records contain no photos, videos, or personal profile data.

To submit a data deletion request by email, or if you have questions about what data we hold and how to remove it, contact our Data Protection team at privacy@preserveforever.photos. We respond to all requests within 30 days in accordance with GDPR Article 17.
